Karissa Staples, Miss Greater Portland, of Biddeford is Miss Maine 2006. Karissa competed with 12 other young women from around the state during the 70th annual Miss Maine Scholarship Pageant held in Brunswick, Maine on June 2 & 3, 2006. Karissa is 18 years old and a member of Biddeford High School Class of 2006. She plans to continue her education and receive a bachelor's degree in Musical Theatre at Wagner College, Staten Island, New York. Karissa's platform was entitled, Youth Empowerment. An accomplished vocalist, she performed "Take Me or Leave Me," from the Broadway play RENT.
